listening to soundtrack of West Side Story...
Q: What does 'Tristan & Isolde', 'Romeo & Juliet' and 'West Side Story' have in common?
A: Lousy ending for all the lovers.
Watched 'Tristan' last Tuesday and caught West Side Story on Saturday at the Esplanade.
This better not be an indication of what's in stored for me in the future. Touch wood!
That would just suck.

The set for 'West' was nothing elaborate like Phantom or the other mega musicals, but it was overall entertaining. Even better when you're served champagne and strawberries before the start of the musical and during intermission.
'Let's not mingle, but just take our glasses to a corner and pretend we are socializing,' I suggested. So we mingled happily with nobody.

Back to the play.
Highlights:
- Opening act was so full of energy and zest I could feel the blood rushing through the performers' veins. Well-choreographed tumbles and somersaults made me sit up and look forward to the unfolding of the story.
- Anita! Best friend/ prospective sis-in-law of the female lead.
She's bitchy, but loyal. She snaps but she loves.
- The old man who played Doc. He's got a nice baritone voice, with timbre, accent and all.
- How can you not love the 50s outfits? 'Look look! The red and white dress is just so cute!' I whispered to Y.
- I was especially entralled when Maria sang 'I feel pretty'. I tell myself (and a whole lot of other people) the same thing when I'm feeling cheeky and thick-skinned at times.
- Reprise of song 'Tonight'. Love vs hatred. Why do they co-exist?
Little boo boos:
- Certain draggy scenes. Disliked the part where the couple lost themselves in some pure perfect world. Kinda cliche and duhh. Was impatiently waiting for it to end.
- Lead actor Josh Young was a superb singer, but his face and stature... erm... a bit off? He's not too tall, so I had to deduct his stage presence. Somehow, he reminded me of Michael Buble. And his pants seemed a weeeeee bit too tight on Saturday.
- Too pro-America. I could almost visualize the entire cast singing in harmony suddenly and waxing lyricals about the country.
- Abrupt ending. I shan't say too much in case I spoil it for you.

Would I recommend it? Yeah, go catch it!

thanks for telling. i'm alright with putting people at the door. we weren't barred from going up, just that it would have been nice if they didn't have pained expressions.
nevertheless, loof is still a good place. btw do i know u?
