listening to nanquan mama's 'Tonight'...
Lunch today was Lau Phua Chay roasted duck rice at Bukit Merah lane. Accolades from different media decorated the stall and long queues always snake infront of it during lunch time.
I'm not a duck person, but this is ooh-la-la mouthwatering. The meat was tender and juicy, unlike the tough dry versions I had elsewhere. Normally when I eat duck, I ditch the skin. I can't imagine putting those fatty slimy things into my mouth without retching. That's how duck skin and white chicken skin appear to me - gooey flat slivers of slime.
I'd rather eat bulls' testicles (think Fear Factor) coz I expect bulls' balls to taste less gross. However, I enjoyed it from this stall because the skin was crispy without being too crunchy.
I tucked heartily into the plate of rice drown in viscuous black gravy. Once in a while, I would look up from my plate. But only long enough to spoon some piping hot soup into my mouth or to dip the meat into the tasty chilli sauce. The food had my utmost attention.
Bought a cup of avocado shake for takeaway. Thursday was almost perfect until insanity struck and the mood turned gloomy. But that's another story already.
