listening to angela zhang's 'Yu Yan'...
Came across this website, beautifulpeople.net, several months back while doing show prep for our morning show.
How it works:
1. You submit your picture and profile.
2. The existing members will then vote whether you deserve to be a part of them.
3. If you succeed, congrats! You are beautiful.
4. If you fail to make the cut, you may (a)re-try, or (b)resign to fate that you are ugly.
Was discussing with JF on air about the ridiculous exclusivity it was trying to portray. "Shallow elitism in its worst," we concluded.
Then read in today's papers that the site is launching its own Singapore version. Scarier still, more than a thousand have actually attempted to sign up! We either have THAT many beautiful people or that many people who THINK they are beautiful.
Out of curiosity, both JF and I checked out the site. Erm... there are indeed some goodlookers, but quite a number ho-hum ones too. It seems evil to be judging people based on their looks. Nevertheless they probably have braced themselves for the crit attacks. Incidently, out of the 1000+ applicants, only about 35 managed to get into the club.
We were scratching our heads as to who would wanna join such a superficial fellowship. The absolutely gorgeous ones don't need the reassurance, while really ugly ones know they don't stand a chance and won't want to suffer the humiliation.
Thus we are left with the mediocre ones. *gasp*
That's us! Wahhhhhhh...
Now I want to puke.

or maybe there are just THAT many people who want to know if other people think they are beautiful...
intriguing....
Now we can add insecurity to their list. Sigh... Looks really matter that much eh?
Read somewhere that if you feel beautiful, you tend to look better. So why don't they just look in the mirror daily and tell themselves, "Damn! I am goodlooking!", instead of waiting for strangers to reassure them.
