Past revisited #1

listening to dj sammy's 'Heaven'... (I'm in TechnoLand.)

Sometimes memories can play such a joke on us.
What we deemed dear or thought had happened, was a mere figment of our imagination.

After not seeing each other for almost a decade (gawd, makes me seem so OLD), I met up with Edna on Saturday. She was one of my bestest friends in primary school. Together with Sheryl, Janice and Fiona, we formed the 'Notorious Five', namesake courtesy of our primary school teacher. Sadly, I didn't keep in touch with any of them. Possibly coz we were all too caught up with secondary school lives, and primary school memories were banished to the dungeons. Something which I've always regretted.

Anyway, it was weird to feel so jittery about seeing a friend again.
Would it be an uncomfortable coffee session? Would we have anything to talk about? I mean, we have mutual friends, so we get updates occasionally from others, but neither of us bothered to stay in touch till 2005. Separate schools, separate lives.

So when I finally met Ed, I was bowled over by emotions.
Much like when I attended my first P6 class outing this year, after the PSLE eons ago.
The coffee at Siglap Cartel wasn't too bad. We managed to summarize the lost years into two hours, with mininal awkward silence. The silence was expected, since not every friendship could pick up from where it ended, especially when ours was forged before puberty.

Reminiscing got me puzzled as our memories didn't match too well. Things which I remembered were different from hers, and there were loads that she couldn't recall. It would have seem pathetically one-sided on my part, until she told me even her secondary life in RGS was becoming hazy. Guess she's more into the present, while I cling onto the past too excessively.
Other than that little glitch, it was a pretty pleasant afternoon.

Finally, before we parted, the promise to 'meet up again soon'.
Cliched gesture, but I'm quite positive we'll keep to it.
Life's too short to wait another ten years before the next shared brew.

hmm... for me, memories of my present seemed to get forgotten more easily than the memories of my childhood..

Frankly speaking, sometimes i wish we could just go back to that era again.. so carefree and happy.. the Cinderella musical etc..

I can't recall what she's doing now. Saw her and Adelyn in Chinatown. Was very amazed we managed to recognise one another.
